For livelier pursuits, the town of Penzance beckons, with its wide selection of shops and restaurants, aquarium, cinema and both indoor and outdoor swimming-pools, as well as fishing, diving and boat trips. A trip to the famous Minack Open-Air Theatre and the rocky outcrop of St Michael’s Mount are a must for any touring itinerary, as is a visit to St Ives – harbouring a myriad of narrow cobbled alleys lined with unusual shops, it has long been the haunt of artists, and is home to the superb Tate Gallery.
