Casa Matassi nestles in an archeologically important area in Italy, in a small, green valley between the Prenestini and Tiburtini Hills, an hour east of Rome, close to Tivoli.
The original house owners were important collectors - Roman busts, columns, sculptures, antiques and ancient Roman safe incorporated into the main fireplace lend a cool, neoclassical ambience to the interior.
Outside, the house is surrounded by marble and stone paving and a natural shade of tall umbrella pines and cypress trees. The large pool, with fountain, offers views around this rural setting with plenty of terraces dotted around for relaxing and dining.
The very discreet estate custodian resides in a small property within the grounds of the house.
Italy’s greatest water garden, the Villa D’Este and Hadrian’s Villa are at nearby Tivoli, whilst the Roman treasures at Palestrina and the nearby Roman Hills make for an interesting morning out. Central Rome can be visited via an underground metro from the eastern outskirts of the city in under an hour.
