Property Description

"A true woodland retreat with a stunning mountain backdrop..."

With glorious views over the nearby glens and a magnificent mountain backdrop, Glentruim Estate occupies a peaceful setting overlooking the valley of the River Spey near Newtonmore. The 53 acres of unspoilt garden and grounds offer a superb diversity of woodlands with mature trees, a mass of azaleas and colourful rhododendrons.
Built around 1840 by Major Euan MacPherson, Glentruim Castle (SNNN) is ideal for larger groups, offering spacious rooms with great attention to style and detail, yet still retaining many of its original features. Adjoining one another are Coach House and Laundry Cottage; originally built as the castle stables, they have been tastefully renovated by interior designers, to blend old world charm with modern-day comforts. An idyllic honeymoon retreat, Piper’s Cottage (SNNO) is a detached, single-storey holiday property and has been designed specifically with romance and tranquillity in mind. It was formerly occupied by Sandy MacPherson, who reputedly taught Queen Victoria’s piper to play the pipes.
Wildlife regularly seen ‘on the doorstep’ of Glentruim is remarkably diverse and includes roe deer, red deer, stoats, hares, rabbits, squirrels, pheasants, partridges and owls, in addition to the domesticated peacocks which parade through the grounds. Lying within the Cairngorms National Park, with its rugged beauty, the castle and cottages are well placed for a holiday exploring the Highlands with its stunning scenery, and for enjoying private fishing on the River Spey, mountain biking, golf, hill walking, mountaineering, snowboarding and skiing. Loch Ness and the West Coast are easily accessible, as are the famous whisky and castle trails. Pubs 3 miles.
