Architecturally, they are magnificent sandstone buildings with bold classical details. The interiors have a scale and proportion hardly imaginable today, with exquisite cornices, high ceilings and richly crafted carpentry. The large windows flood the rooms with natural light and the timber floors are redolent of a bygone era. The Mews Cottages (SLLH, SLLJ & SLLK), each with its own small, enclosed garden, sit within the St Albans grounds. They have been designed in a contemporary manner using traditional materials to complement the original buildings.
