Property Description
Nestling in the beautiful South Shropshire countryside, this tastefully restored and furnished barn is named after Tom Doby, who worked on the owner’s farm for over 40 years. Adjoining another holiday cottage and set in 2 acres of established gardens, the barn is located in a small hamlet near Acton Burnell, and boasts stunning views of the Wrekin and South Shropshire hills. Airy and spacious, the interior boasts oak floors and doors, and timber beams, and outside there is a courtyard with herb garden. Guests enjoy shared use of a heated outdoor swimming-pool and tennis court. Ideally placed for exploring Shropshire, the property is 8 miles from the county town of Shrewsbury, 12 miles from Church Stretton and 9 miles from Much Wenlock. Cycle hire is available locally for exploring the lovely Shropshire lanes, and other activities include gliding, horse riding, walking and golf. Just 15 miles away is Bridgnorth offering the Severn Valley Railway, where the beauty of the River Severn can be enjoyed from a steam-hauled train.Within 15 miles is Ironbridge with its 10 unique museums which tell the story of the Industrial Revolution, and Church Stretton with the Long Mynd and Acton Scott Historic Working Farm, where a 19th-century farm is recreated complete with heavy horses, vintage machinery and rare breeds. Craven Arms is home to Stokesay Castle, the finest, best preserved 13th-century fortified manor house in England, as well as the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre which is ideal for all family. Other attractions in the area include Burford House Gardens at Tenbury Wells, The Cosford Royal Air Force Museum at Shifnal and the Victorian brewery and beer museum at Bishops Castle.
