’A finely restored character property set within the spectacular landscape of the South Shropshire hills’
Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Shooting Lodge is located on the historic country estate of Acton Scott providing an idyllic setting for holidays and recreation. Enjoying a landscape largely unchanged for two centuries, this privately owned estate today consists of a number of small farmsteads, stone and timber framed cottages, ancient woodland and rolling pasture, amounting to some 1,200 acres.
The Shooting Lodge has been finely restored to offer every modern day convenience whilst retaining its original character and period detail. Approached by a private track that winds through fields and woodland, the property occupies a secluded position set within its own picturesque grounds. Its south-facing terraced lawns and patio command stunning views across open parkland towards Wenlock Edge. The Shooting Lodge is one of three holiday houses at Acton Scott (the others being Henley Farmhouse, sleeping 20, ref RJJ3, and Henley Cottage, sleeping 4+1, ref ROO4). The properties may be rented individually or booked together to accommodate the needs of larger parties. Dating back to the mid 18th century, The Shooting Lodge boasts a wealth of original features including beamed ceilings, oak floors and open fires. Renovated to an excellent standard, it is a unique property with its spacious oak-framed banqueting room for relaxing and entertaining, a large bespoke farmhouse-style kitchen, a rustic log cabin summerhouse with viewing platform and an external table tennis room.

This picturesque holiday house provides the perfect base from which to explore the Acton Scott Estate and local countryside antowns, with their many and varied attractions, suitable for all ages. This includes Acton Scott’s Historic Working Farm set within the 18th-century Home Farm buildings. A favourite family visitor attraction, it stocks rare and traditional breeds of farm animal, whilst the land around is worked with shire horses to demonstrate the farming practices of 1900 and together with The School House Café, it is open to the public from April to October. There are also many footpaths and bridleways on the estate offering varied walks providing landscape views, historic features and wildlife.
Further afield are the medieval market towns of Ludlow and Shrewsbury, both with fine castles and a wealth of period architecture, in addition to theatres, cinemas, excellent restaurants, traditional country pubs, antiques and good shopping. In addition to walking in the spectacular Stretton Hills and Welsh Marches, sports centre facilities, including swimming and tennis, horse riding and golf courses are all close at hand. Locally produced foods may be found at neighbouring farm shops, or delivered direct by arrangement to Acton Scott’s holiday houses, and catering can be organised.
