Property Description
The picturesque village of Brighstone provides the setting for this attractive period cottage with its wealth of character features. Standing detached, its interior boasts an inglenook fireplace, wood-burning stove, flagstone floors and beamed ceilings, all of which enhance its homely feel. Well-equipped and spacious – it boasts five bedrooms and a second living room/study – it offers ideal accommodation for a family holiday on an island that is well known for its temperate climate and plethora of tourist attractions.
Brighstone provides a quaint village setting, with its tearoom, shops and pubs, and the nearest beach lies just under a mile away. Numerous further sandy and pebble beaches exist to satisfy the most ardent rock pool hunter or sun lover, whilst for the more restless soul, miles of coastal walking routes can be explored. From way above beach level, the breathtaking unspoilt scenery of the island can be truly appreciated and further natural features of the land providing intrigue are the coloured sands at Alum Bay and The Needles at Freshwater.
For days out and appealing to many ages, there is Carisbrooke Castle, two working water mills (at Yafford and Calbourn, open daily in summer), an abbey, dinosaur museum, pearl factory and several National Trust properties and gardens to visit.
Internationally recognised as a centre for sailing, Cowes hosts its famous regatta over nine days in August, when yachting enthusiasts flock to the area, while the Round the Island Race takes place in June, attracting some thousand or more entries. Always a lively town, it is also the main port for the island, with car and passenger ferries running to and from the mainland. Shop 500 yards.
