The pretty village of Godstone lies 2 miles distant, with Caterham also nearby. London is easily reached in less than half an hour via the fast train from Oxted (6 miles).
There are plenty of stately homes and gardens to explore, all within easy driving distance including Chartwell, Hever or Leeds Castle, Penshurst Place, Hampton Court Palace, Bletchingly Castle, Leonardslee Gardens and Nymens. Alternatively there are days out at Epsom or Lingfield races. For children Chessington Zoo/World of Adventure and Thorpe Park make for fun days out. Brighton and the south coast can be reached within an hour, with a host of seaside activities and family entertainment. Also within easy reach is Dover, where trips across the Channel to Calais can be made, and the spa town of Tunbridge Wells. Pubs 2 miles.
