Property Description

Standing detached in a very attractive large garden, this lovely thatched cottage dates back 400 years and offers spacious accommodation. Beautifully restored, the holiday cottage has retained many character features including beams and inglenooks, together with every modern day comfort and convenience. The location is ideal for touring and exploring (being close yet set back from a main road), and is positioned on The Ridgeway National Trail, accessing many wonderful tranquil miles of byways and footpaths across the Marlborough Downs and beyond. The pretty market town of Marlborough is just 4 miles away, with its half-timbered houses, handsome Georgian buildings and fine selection of individual shops, inns and restaurants in and around one of Europe’s widest high streets.
Within easy reach are the ancient sites of Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow, Avebury Stone Circle/village and several iron-age forts. On the downs are white horses, ancient routes and the country’s main area for the appearance of mysterious crop-circles. Beautiful Saversnake Forest and the Kennet and Avon Canal are just minutes away. Just a short drive to the north are the Cotswolds, to the west is beautiful Bath with its pale gold architecture, to the east is Hungerford with its many antique shops, and to the south is the cathedral city of Salisbury as well as Stonehenge. Golf available locally. Shops 4 miles.
