Property Description

In a small exclusive setting, these spacious, light and airy properties are set between the Cheviot Hills and the magnificent Northumberland Coast on the edge of the National Park. Milfield Hill Steading stands in an elevated position and was once part of a large country estate dating back to the 1750s; it was owned by the Grey family until 1967 and was the birthplace of the social reformer Josephine Butler. Each with a generous garden and tranquil surroundings, Bushyfield Cottage (MFQ), Airidh Bhan (MGF) and The Barn House (MNA) serve as an excellent holiday location to explore the area’s rich history. There are the medieval ruins of Etal and Dunstanburgh, the grandeur of Bamburgh and Alnwick Castles, Holy Island and the Farne Islands. The stunning expanse of the North Northumberland coastline (AONB) offers long, uncrowded, sandy beaches, attractive fishing villages and little seaside resorts. Virtually from the doorstep the Cheviot’s ‘rounded hills’ and the Pennine Way offer a challenging terrain. In addition, there is cycling, horse riding, golf and bird-watching. Village shop and pub/restaurant about ½ mile. The three adjoining cottages are a delightful example of traditional Northumbrian design and form part of a conversion. Upgraded and tastefully refurbished, they maintain the character of the old farm buildings with all of the comforts of a modern home. The Barn House is 5 Star standard whilst Bushyfield Cottage and Airidh Barn have achieved the prestigious Enjoy England Gold Award, 4 Star standard, for exceptional quality of accommodation 2009/10, as assessed by Quality in Tourism for VisitBritain.
