Property Description
The Old Rectory and Coach House together provide an ideal holiday location for a family gathering or special occasion. Standing not far apart in their own small park at the head of a glorious valley, and with a games room and an outdoor heated swimming-pool in a Mediterranean-style walled garden, they are peace on earth. The regency Old Rectory was built for the rector of Ashcombe in 1810 and the beautifully converted Coach House, still complete with oak panelling, is where the rector once kept his coach and horses. There is a south-facing lawn, with a rose bed and shady verandah at the Old Rectory, where guests may enjoy views of the countryside. There is also an enclosed lawn at the Coach House, ideal for children. Deer can be seen grazing on the surrounding hills in the evening. A hard tennis court and indoor heated swimming-pool with a licensed bar (by request) are also available at Ashcombe, plus the Ashcombe Adventure Centre (by booking) for those over 14 years of age. There are some superb walks nearby with magnificent views and within a short distance the sandy beaches of Dawlish and Teignmouth (both 4 miles), and the dramatic scenery of Dartmoor with its rocky tors and wild ponies (8 miles). There are some excellent pubs and restaurants nearby and there are golf courses at Teignmouth, Dawlish Warren and Woodbury Common. Sea and coarse fishing may be arrranged. The Eden Project is a day’s outing. There is a lounge with TV and broadband available for early arrivals.
