Property Description

A short walk from the NT beauty spot of Mullion Cove and close to adjacent sandy coves, this lovely stone Cornish holiday cottage stands peacefully in a sunny sheltered garden. The garden features a revolving cedar wood summerhouse (an ideal hide for bird-watchers), which is set between a lily pond and stream and there is an octagonal gazebo cum brick barbecue area. Wrapped up for the night in the summerhouse, sensible older children will be enthralled to watch badgers and foxes spending long hours digging for worms in the grass.
Located on the Lizard Peninsula, Mullion is Cornwall’s biggest village and is situated just a mile from the coast, where Mullion Cove lies with its unusual rock sculptures and small beach. Marking the spot where the first transatlantic radio transmission was made in 1901, the Marconi Monument can be seen at the cliff’s edge. Nearby Kynance Cove (the peninsula’s best known beach) is characterised by impressive cliffs, offshore islands and displays stacks and arches of serpentine rock. With surfers, the beaches at Polurrian and Poldhu prove popular, whilst sandy beaches can be found at Church and Dollar coves. Five miles north of the cottage is the stannary town of Helston, where tin ore was once extracted and sent to the port at Porthleven. Held each May, the well-known Floral Dance is performed here – men in top hats and women in summer dresses taking to the streets to re-enact a somewhat strange dance, which lasts for the greater part of the day. Younger family members will enjoy the theme park also found there, and the network of quiet country lanes connecting the inland villages with those on the coast provide a good way to explore the area, with cycle hire available at Helston. Just over half an hour’s drive away are Truro, Penzance, Falmouth, Redruth and St Ives. Golf, riding and pleasant coastal walks all found locally. Shops and pub close by.
