In the Périgord Noir, close to the valley of the Dordogne, this attractive stone house enjoys a secluded position on a hilltop with panoramic views over vineyards up to Belvés. A swimming pool faces the house and terrace, accessed by large bay windows. The modern interior, with its beams and stone walls, is simply furnished and opens to a terrace, while the lower floor bedrooms also open on to a terrace. Five minutes’ drive away is Siorac, with canoeing and fishing on the River Dordogne, which also has a beach. There are interesting markets to explore, known for their ‘cepes’, nuts and chestnuts, and many excellent restaurants serving duck, seafood and local farm products. Good places to visit include the abbey of Cadouin and the châteaux of Milandes, Beynac and Cazenac.
