Property Description
This impressive 19th century stone house is set in a little village between La Rochelle, Rochefort and Saintes. With large lawned gardens, it has a superb swimming pool with a tiled terrace. The interior has been tastefully done, yet has retained original features such as stone walls. A short drive are the pretty towns of Saint Jean d’Angély with aqualand centre and huge pool, and Surgères with numerous cafés and excellent restaurants. La Rochelle is easily reached and after viewing the old harbour and aquarium, there are many sandy beaches, and boat trips to the surrounding islands. To the south is Rochefort and the town of Saintes has a beautiful abbaye with summer classical concerts held there. The River Charente offers boat trips up to Cognac. There are several golf courses including those at La Rochelle, Saintes and Cognac. Also worth a visit is Futuroscope at Poitiers just over an hour away or even closer is the Marais Poitevin (Green Venice), just a forty minute drive away.
