Situated on the lovely island of Ré, this whitewashed, 18th-century town house is set by the church in an attractive village within walking distance of its cafés, restaurants, daily market and harbour. Full of charm, it has a little enclosed terrace and garden, and is surrounded by ‘roses tremières’, the typical flower of the island. The interior is furnished with antiques, and makes a practical base for a simple relaxed holiday. The island has plenty of antique shops to explore, and fresh fish, farm produce and the famous ‘bière blanche’ are all available from the market. La Rochelle is less than 20 minutes’ drive away, a lively town with good restaurants on the old harbour, narrow cobbled streets to explore and a aquarium.
