Property Description

Lying in the heart of rural Suffolk, and surrounded by footpaths offering beautiful countryside walks, this 15th-century farmhouse provides thoughtful and well-equipped holiday accommodation. Many historical villages and towns are close by, with antique shops to browse around, picturesque cottages to admire and good pubs in which to relax. Stradbroke is only 2 miles away with pubs, shops and swimming-pool. Many attractions in Norfolk are equally accessible, including Bressingham Gardens and Steam Museum.
The historic towns of Diss, Bury St Edmunds, Norwich and Cambridge are all within easy driving distance, as are the Norfolk and Suffolk coasts for a day by the sea. Nearby, Framlingham Castle – managed by English Heritage, and formerly the seat of some powerful families (including the Howards) – offers excellent views of the town and the reed-fringed mere below. The town is also home to St Michael’s Church, where some of the best Renaissance monuments in the country can be observed. En route to Framlingham, Saxtead Mill stands as a familiar landmark gracing the site where a mill has been in existence since 1287. The current mill, still in commercial use until 1947, is open for visiting. For those interested in art, the Boundary Gallery in Cransford exhibits the work of local Suffolk artists, whilst wine lovers will find Shawsgate Vineyard a pleasant stop-off point, where Chardonnay and Reichsteiner are offered. The larger Bruisyard Vineyard offers tours (by arrangement) of the complete wine making process, and visitors can additionally enjoy its herb and water gardens. For superb sea views and wildlife, the coastal towns of Aldeburgh, Southwold and Dunwich are just a short drive and make for good days out.
